Supporting North Carolina Health Centers Amidst Milestones
Celebrating Medicaid Expansion
A heartfelt congratulations to NC FQHCs and health professionals for their pivotal role in making Medicaid Expansion a reality in 2023. V-Cap is working with health centers across the state to expand healthcare accessibility amidst the transformative opportunities that Medicaid Expansion will usher in for health centers.
Here are some recent highlights of our partnerships with North Carolina health centers:
Appalachian Mountain Health Center Groundbreaking
V-Cap is thrilled to congratulate Appalachian Mountain Health (AMH) on breaking ground for their new health center in Murphy, NC. The new Peachtree Clinic will increase access to care in rural Western North Carolina, a region with half the physician population per capita and healthcare that is 11.5% more expensive than national averages.
AMH is a FQHC providing high-quality, affordable care to patients, regardless of their ability to pay. The new health center in Murphy will increase patient capacity and add critically needed women’s health, pediatric services, dental services, and in-house pharmacy. In addition to the new services, AMH will continue to offer primary care for adults, one on one health education, transportation and other enabling services.
"V-Cap and Self-Help have been patient and supportive partners for this important step for AMH and our patients in Murphy. We're excited that North Carolina now has a CDFI focused on growing health center presence across the state." - Shantelle Simpson, AMH CEO
Vital Healthcare Capital (V-Cap) and our partner Self-Help Credit Union are pleased to finance the construction of AMH’s new health center.
Triad Adult and Pediatric Medicine (TAPM): Utilizing the VitalTA Development Services Funding Opportunity
In 2023, V-Cap introduced the VitalTA development services program in North Carolina to fund technical assistance needs for NC FQHC growth. Three pilot projects with TAPM and other NC-based health centers, fueled by VitalTA funds, focus on strengthening workforce development and strategic planning for future growth.
MedNorth Receiving New Market Tax Credit Support
V-Cap is helping MedNorth and other NC health centers access New Market Tax Credit subsidies for their health center capital projects. NMTCs are a federal program that use tax credits to provide subsidy up to 20% of capital project costs into low-income communities. Nearly 30% of NMTC projects are in healthcare, most of which are FQHCs and among those North Carolina is vastly underrepresented.
Althea Johnson, MedNorth’s CEO shared, “V-Cap’s support in navigating New Market Tax Credits and providing technical assistance funding has been highly valued throughout our health center’s growth.”
